This necklace is a companion piece to my Patterned Wrapped Earrings. Those earrings were inspired in part by a book on Japanese packaging called "How to Wrap Five Eggs". In this book, various products are wrapped in boldly patterned cloth or paper and creatively tied up with twine. The result is simple and dramatic.
These pieces are a marriage of two previous directions in my work-- my wrapped pieces and my patterned metal series. The pendant features a 3/8" wide by 1" tall forget me not patterned brass rectangle wrapped by a light gauge sterling silver wire. Both the patterned brass and the wire wraps have been given a patina to create a bold look, and the wire ends have been soldered into place so they will not come unraveled. It is hung on a 1 mm round snake chain that is 16" long, and is finished with my distinctive hand-formed spiral clasp.
