LF002 - Bog Bird’s-foot Trefoil (L. Lotus pinnatus)

The Lotus Pinnatus pendant is 3.5cm x 2cm. The standard chain size for this piece is 16" but other available lengths are 18" and 20". For a longer chain, the price may vary and please specify upon ordering. This beautiful necklace is made from sterling silver. A 3.5mm citrine is gypsy set in the piece and citrine is the birthstone for November.

This necklace design was inspired by the Lotus Pinnatus, a white-and-yellow coloured flower that is part of the Fabaceae (legume) family, though it produces no edible seeds. Native to the West coast of North America, the Bog Bird’s-foot Trefoil is only considered endangered in British Columbia, where it has been red-listed as ‘critically imperiled’. In Canada, it is confined to a small area on the southern tip of Vancouver Island near Nanaimo, where it has been named the city’s official flower, and sparse patches around Gabriola Island. There are only five confirmed growing sites in B.C., most of which are situated on private land. The Lotus pinnatus has almost disappeared in Canada; namely through residential development, and erosion caused by all-terrain vehicles. The Lotus Pinnatus has been on Canada’s endangered plants list since May of 2004.
