Description

What's that? You say you don't like my crabby attitude? Well ... talk to the claw. This 3.5" Red Rock Crab claw, to be specific. Yes, complete with random barnacles.

All summer long Crabby Chris and Grumpy Steve prowl the deep waters off Camano Island, Washington in search of the wily Dungeness Crab. (Wily and delicious, that is!) Lately the crabs have been bigger than ever, with huge claws for me to collect. Not wishing to waste Nature's gifts, I have strung Red Rock Crab claws on heavy duty stainless steel beading wire along with shell chips, sea urchin spines, Dungeness crab "thumbs" and orange seed beads to make a stunning 26" decidedly beachy neckpiece.

Because crabs have their bones on the outside, they have to shed their shell in order to grow (don't we all?). So they crack them open across the back and exit in reverse, emerging with a new, slightly larger shell that will harden over several days. Did I comb the beach for all these claws? Heck, yes! But I also trapped, euthanized, boiled, and consumed some of the hapless donors myself, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

The perfect gift for the crustaceophiliac, June/July birthday person, incorrigable grouch in your life, chronic Burner, grizzled fisherman, or as an outward sign of your cantankerous temperament. The adjustable length of this neckpiece works for large, medium and small humans, but if you need a particular length just let me know (no upcharge). Closes with a gold-plated claw clasp.

One of the photos shows one of my necklaces worn by real live Mermaid Cydney. Isn't she gorgeous? Limited availability on this item as there are only so many crab claws available, and when they're gone, they're gone, until next summer. Guaranteed to evoke comments, inquiries and dubious stares. Not recommended for those who wish to keep a low profile, but perfect for a Monday morning.

Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
Plastic, PayPal and Etsy Direct Checkout are welcome. Please remit no later than five business days after the purchase. I also accept USPS money order, cashier's check or personal check, cash and dark chocolate. Payment by check does slow things down a bit due to the time required for the transaction to clear. Washington State residents get to donate sales tax, so that is automatically collected.

Returns & exchanges

I gladly accept returns and exchanges

Ship items back within: 7 days of delivery

I don't accept cancellations

But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.

The following items can't be returned or exchanged

Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)

Returns and exchange details

If there is ever a problem, talk to The Crab and we will work out an agreement that is to your satisfaction. In the event a return for refund is requested, Crabby Chris must receive such request in writing within THREE DAYS of receipt of order; and she must receive the returned product within FOURTEEN DAYS. CUSTOMERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR RETURN SHIPPING COSTS. In no instance will a refund exceed the amount of the original transaction.

Shipping policies

Most orders are shipped by USPS Priority Mail with Tracking, which generally takes two or three days' transit time within the U.S. If you need to have an order shipped to more than one address, please order separately for each address. You will receive a shipping notification with tracking number.

Orders outside North American are shipped WITHOUT PILLOW INSERTS to save on the high cost of shipping and the likelihood of inspection delays at destination. Please convo the artist if you have questions regarding this option. I do not ship to Spain; all previous attempts have been futile.

Customers are responsible for any customs, tariffs, taxes or inspection fees levied by their local or federal agencies. Crabby Chris has no control over the amount of time a parcel may be in the hands of customs agents of any country.

Additional policies

I am pleased to do special orders that are reasonably within the realm of what I ordinarily produce; such things as a simple color change usually involve no additional charge. Other adjustments such as a custom size, shape or motif are usually very do-able; drop me a line and we can discuss.

NOTE: If requesting design changes or a custom colorway, please be advised that CUSTOM WORK IS NOT RETURNABLE as it is not marketable to other customers.
