this dress is very fitted, but in a sweet but not too sweet print. The print is wallpaper stripes with mini horizontal stripes and dots, mixed with folkloric abstract hearts and flowers in adjacent stripes. It's a neat mix of the folksy and the edgy graphic. I'm not a girly girl, and this dress NEVER felt too girly--the colors, like black and yellow (which end up blending to look like chartreuse green), cancel out the sweetness of the tiny red hearts and abstract blue flowers. It's really a special dress.

The fabric is a durable but sheer cotton voile. I've worn this a few times and it's held up exceptionally well and is in near-new condition.

dress size:
bust: 36" max, best at 34"-35"
under-bust: 31"
waist: 26"-27"
hips: open
shoulders: 13" seam to seam, will fit a bit larger due to cut
length: 47" unhemmed

The dress has a foldover overlap shelf bust, which will fit as small as 32" and still look great.
The bodice has a wide midriff band that tapers to the waist. It is not short-waisted (rare for a 50s dress!) It has a yellow painted metal side zip. The dress has cap sleeves, and a neat and unusual foldover shoulder design, pictured.
The skirt is pleated all the way around. It is currently unhemmed, so you can hem it to whatever length you want.

It comes with the original matching belt. the belt has the only wear on the whole ensemble, slight dinginess to the slim belt buckle, and tiny bit of fraying on the belt holes. I've shown this in a large photo.

I include a matching yellow slip. The slip is a bias cut, yellow Snip-it slip (which means it will be very easy to hem shorter if you want), in "celanese clairinese acetate taffeta", according to the tag. These are classic opaque slips, i have a few of them and they're wonderful, durable, and non-staticky.
slip size:
36" bust
30" underbust

I think this dress is early 1950s. it has no label but it is not handmade. It reminds me of the work of Carolyn Schnurer or Greta Plattry.
