Description

The Return of the King by JRR Tolkien being the third part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Originally published in 1955, George Allen and Unwin then issued a second edition in 1966 with the striking "eye" dust jackets. This copy is a seventh impression of that edition dating to 1973. In good vintage condition and with the original dust wrapper.

The contents are very good with the pages being clean and tightly bound. This copy has no writing or marks although there is a small area at the top of the front endpaper which is mildly scuffed as if a name or price has been erased. The top closed edge is tinted red and there are a few faint foxing spots to the closed fore-edge but no foxing inside. Being the third instalment this copy contains over 100 pages of Appendices at the end of the book. These cover:

Annals of Kings and Rulers; Tale of Years (Chronology of the Westlands); Family Trees (Hobbits); Calendars; Pronunciation of Words and Names; Writing; Languages; On Translation; Index of Names.

Red cloth covered boards are very good having been well protected by the dust wrapper. The red cloth has faded along the very outside edges (see photos).

The dust wrapper is also in good condition. It has been price-clipped and has some very slight edge wear. Overall very good indeed with strong colours and little sign of wear.

Your vintage edition of The Return of the King will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon.

H 23 cm x W 14.5 cm, 440 pages, 0.65 kg. I dispatch worldwide daily from the UK. (With the exception of a small number of countries).
