This connector is a perfect example of the Art Deco period of design.

Art Deco is a movement that lasted from the 1920s until around 1940. It was begun by the French at an event named "Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes" and "Art Deco" was later coined from that title. Artists, designers of all manner and interior decorators were involved in the movement at first. In contrast with Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts, Art Deco celebrated geometric shapes & crisp lines and was inspired by the new technology and machinery of the early 20th century. Because of how the style lends itself to geometric, Modern shapes, many skyscrapers such as the Chrysler Building in Manhattan and movie theater designs of the time were inspired by the Art Deco movement. One of the most famous painters of the time, and a personal favorite, Tamara de Lempika, is celebrated as a premiere Art Deco artist.
