GENUINE FRENCH STEEL CUT BEADS STRUNG FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE
22 BPI (BEADS PER INCH)
16 inch Strand
PRISTINE CONDITION

THESE BEADS ARE THE REAL DEAL.
ATTRACTED TO A MAGNET, THIS CONFIRMS THEY ARE INDEED FRENCH STEEL

A LITTLE HISTORY .........THE FRENCH WERE THE FIRST TO PRODUCE THESE AMAZING BEADS WHICH STARTED A FASHION TREND IN THE LATE 1800S. SOON AFTER, THE FASHION MADE IT'S WAY TO THE USA AND A FEW AMERICAN MAKERS STARTED TO PRODUCE THE BEADS WHICH FAILED TO LIVE UP TO THE QUALITY OF THE FRENCH MADE BEADS. AMERICAN MADE STEEL BEADS RUST AT A MUCH FASTER RATE THEN THE FRENCH STEEL CUTS. IT IS BELIEVED THAT THE METAL MINED IN THE US WAS LESS SUPERIOR TO THAT FOUND IN FRANCE MINES.

These unique beads haven't been produced since the turn of the 19th Century; back then, bead making was a real art. Today, French Metal Beads are most often used in Victorian-era purse restorations,as well as in high-end jewelry design. In general, the holes of these beads are quite large and should accommodate a #12 or smaller beading needle. Because they are quite rare, quantities are limited. Again, these are Metal beads, not glass. Please care for them properly.
