According to Crane Co. literature, "company anniversaries were festive occasions at Crane." The cast metal elephant was crafted as a keepsake of the company's Fiftieth Jubilee Celebration on July 6, 1905, because "it stands for character, intelligence, and strength."

Roughly 2" tall, he has "1855, CRANE CO. 1905" embossed on his back.

I have seen him listed elsewhere as a paperweight, and he would make a good one because he is heavy for his small size.

I believe his tusks were once a bit longer, but he's still a neat little collectible.
