If you love reading the classics, then William Shakespeare is probably one of your favorite authors. Born around the 26th of April in 1564 in Stratford Upon Avon, England, he was the oldest of four sons and also had three sisters. He attended good schools and as an adult married Anne Hathaway, and they had three children. Before he died in April 1616 at age 52, he wrote a huge number of histories, sonnets, poems, and plays. Some of his more famous tragedies are Anthony and Cleopatra, Hamlet, Julius Caesar, King Lear, Macbeth, Othello, and Romeo and Juliet. He wrote the histories of many English Kings including Henrys IV, V, and VI, as well as Richards II and III, and King Henry VII. He wrote many comedies - As You Like It, Love's Labor's Lost, Merchant of Venice, Midsummers Night's Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, Taming of the Shrew, Tempest, Twelfth Night and Two Gentlemen of Verona, and many others.

This wonderful little commemorative spoon has a realistic bust of William Shakespeare at the top, and his name is spelled out vertically down the handle. I'll bet this was bought in Stratford Upon Avon at one time after visiting his home or a Shakespeare museum there. It is made of pewter and has a very nice shape. The bust measures a nice 3/4 of an inch long by 1/2 inch thick (nose to back of his head). The entire spoon measures 4-1/4 inches long. I have not attempted to "polish" or do any heavy cleaning of the pewter - that's up to you - but it is in wonderful condition "as is". It would look great in a spoon collection, or be very useful in your sugar bowl!
