Would you like to knit your own Tooley Owl? This is a very basic knitting pattern, ideal for beginner knitters or if you are new to making toys.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a knitting pattern and instructions so you can make your own owl; you are not buying the finished toy.

THE PATTERN INCLUDES: Row numbers for each step so you don’t lose your place, plus a handy checklist so you can tick off row by row as you knit. Instructions for making the owl plus photos are included, and a list of abbreviations, a materials list and recommended yarns. Also included is a photo tutorial showing how to change colours to knit the broad stripes for the owl’s tummy. The pattern is 6 pages and written in English.

TECHNIQUES: All pieces are knitted flat (back and forth) on a pair of straight knitting needles. The simple pattern only requires you to know how to knit, purl, cast on, cast off and knit two stitches together.

- A pair of straight 3.5mm knitting needles (US 4)
- Double knitting yarns (DK or light worsted weight) in green and purple; less than 50g in each colour
- Black buttons for eyes
- White and yellow felt fabric for the eyes and beak
- Toy filling

FINISHED SIZE: The owl is approximately 11cm tall x 12cm wide.

DELIVERY: The patterns are available as an instant download after payment, or just send me a note if you would like a pdf copy sent by email too. For more details about instant downloads on Etsy visit

MULTI-BUY DISCOUNT: If you buy two or more of my patterns you can get 20% off your purchase if you enter the discount code KNITME at the Etsy checkout.

I want to make toy making easier for newbie knitters, and each listing will specify the different knitting techniques needed to make each toy. To help you, every pattern has:

- row numbers for every instruction so you won't lose your place,
- instructions on the knitting abbreviations used,
- a list of materials,
- photos of the finished toy, and
- instructions of the construction process
- plus, some patterns include tutorials of specific knitting techniques and construction

And I am ready to answer any questions as you make your toy, either through Etsy messaging or email.
All my patterns are knitted flat, but most can be converted to knitting in the round. I know a lot of people hate seaming, but I wanted beginner knitters to enjoy my patterns, and knitting in the round can be tricky for newbie knitters.
I have no objection if you wish to sell finished toys made from my knitting patterns, provided I am given credit as the pattern designer. These patterns are intended for personal use, so you are not authorised to sell the pattern itself. I encourage items knitted from my patterns to be sold for charity fundraising purposes.
My Etsy store only stocks my most popular patterns, but all of my designs are available to download from Ravelry at
If you need help finding a pattern, just send me a message and I will be happy to help.
I am sorry but I am not taking custom orders at the moment.
Please note that you are buying a knitting pattern, not a finished toy.
