This listing is for a CROSS STITCH & SEWING PATTERN, not for the finished sampler.

I can’t really say exactly, how this design idea came to me. It was a combination of thoughts over a period of time…

The lovely intricacy woven when birds soar together, whether in migration, or for the sheer joy of flying.

The old tradition of sending messages in teensy canisters carried by homing pigeons.

The number of friends in my collection, both new and old, that live too far away for regular visiting.

The tradition I want to carry forward of giving meaningful Christmas ornaments to my children for their future trees, and likewise to my female relatives and friends.

The lack of patterns found after plenty of searching, that combine cross-stitch, bird-shaped ornaments, and Christmas (although these could easily apply to any occasion!).

And that’s about it. One day, the idea, pattern name, and technique came to me while I was hanging laundry, of all things!

I hope that this will be a quick project for you to take on and easily finish before the holiday season arrives. If you have a window of just a few hours, you should be able to complete a bird from start to finish, depending, of course on the speed of your needle.

The birds' wings were made from Weeks Dye Works 40ct. Mocha linen using Weeks Dye Works 1267 Kris’ Bon Bon floss.

You will also need cotton fabric scraps in various prints and poly-fil or other lightweight batting.

This pattern comes with a fully detailed & professional thread chart for 8 different wing messages, plus a bonus full alphabet and number set for customization.

Also included are full-sized, ready-to-cut-out pattern template pieces and sewing instructions, a color photograph, & my recommendations for floss and fabric. It will arrive in a plastic zip-close envelope for safe keeping.
