"Rowan twigs and strings of red,
Deflect all harm, gossip, and dread"

The sacred wood of rowan is particularly suited to protection, healing, psychic powers, good luck and success.

Rowan is a very magical tree that has been connected to Brighid and Imbolc. Tradition tells us to place a cross of rowan upon our doorway this time of the year to honour the Goddess Brighid. We celebrate at this time of the year the return of the light.

The Sacred and Magical Rowan Tree has long been associated with the "giving of Light and Life", often called " Quickbeam", or the "Quickening tree".

"Rowan "is the tree of power, causing life and magic to flower."

A quaint custom found amongst the peoples of the British Isles is placing a cross of rowan tied with red thread above the entrance way of a home on the eve of this ancient Celtic holiday. Tying two small twigs of Rowan together with red thread in the form of an equal-armed cross is an age-old protective amulet.

Since ancient times a cross of rowan has been an extremely magickal and very powerful charm.

Some say that the name rowan means "a secret" or "to whisper" and shares its origin with the ancient word rune.

This ancient little charm has been used for centuries for protection and good luck for both people and animals.

These beautiful rowan charms are designed to be placed above any opening in your home...above a door, a window or even above the hearth in your home.

A rowan charm may be hung above an infant's cradle for the protection against any mischievous faeries found in your home.

Place a cross of rowan above your beloved pet's bed for protection and good luck. In a barn, hang a rowan cross to protect your chickens, horse, goats, and other livestock.

A bride will sew a tiny rowan cross into the hem of her wedding dress to bring both fortune and good luck to her marriage.

If you plan to travel, you would be wise to carry a small rowan cross with you for luck and protection.

All wood collected for these rowan charms has been hand harvested in the Legendary Isle of Avalon, which is the present-day town of Glastonbury, England.

No tree is ever harmed or destroyed in the harvesting of any magical woods for my crafts.
I only harvest wood on the waxing or full moon and I only collect wood in England, during the autumn or winter months when the sap is not rising.

On the top of every Rowan Cross that I craft, I always include a circle of dried rowan berries. My dear husband, Christopher, hand picks these berries every autumn for the crosses.
He is the Royal Rowan Berry collector in the south west of England. Once these berries are dried, they are strung on a fine thread of copper, which is a well-known conductor of positive energy.

On the bottom of each rowan berry, you will find a five-pointed star, the pentagram, a symbol of great protection and known to repel all negative energies.

A small ogham symbol that represents the ancient Irish-Gaelic word "Luis"... meaning rowan, is burned on to the little charm.

This particular cross measures about 3.5 inches wide and 3.5 inches in length. With the added round string of berries, it is about 5 1/4 inches in length.

With each of the Rowan Cross charms I make, you will find included a handmade "Romance Card" which explains the magic and lore associated with this ancient charm.

Thank you very much. I have placed the cross over my door and will place the smaller one in my car. I have a Seminole basket filled with acorns and pine cones and have placed the extra rowan berries in it.

Beautiful. I got this for my Scottish mother to put above her front door for protection; it’s very cathartic and comforting for her. Seller obviously puts a lot of love and time in to their orders. Thank you.
