Ah, chocolate. Despite its bitter taste, we love it dearly. Perhaps this has something to do with the serotonin and dopamine released into our brains when we eat it. Chocolate has many psychoactive chemicals: sugar, caffeine, anandamide (the bliss chemical), tryptophan, and the favored symbol of chocolate: theobromine.

Theobromine is a mild stimulant related to caffeine that makes up about 2% of cacao beans. It’s thought to elevate mood. The name theobromine is derived from Greek words, meaning "food of the gods." I would have to agree.

I’m especially fond of chocolate mixed with spicy chili, the way the Mayans enjoyed it 2,600 years ago. For the health benefits from the flavonoids and antioxidants in chocolate, choose the darkest varieties. Yum!

This necklace is based on the shape of the theobromine molecules. The pendant is made from quality, recycled/reclaimed sterling silver, is 1.5 inches wide, and is attached to a sterling silver snake chain that can be adjusted for length between 16 to 18 inches. It closes with a lobster clasp.

Each is packaged in a recycled gift box and includes an informational tag about theobromine.

[Last photo is Tatianna, a microbiology major and current (cycle 14) contestant on the reality TV show America's Next Top Model, wearing her theobromine necklace. Go, Tatianna!]

Frequently asked questions about molecularmuse

I can make custom molecule jewelry, if the molecule will work in my style. Prices start around $150 and the process usually takes 4-6 weeks.
Most of my jewelry is high quality, solid sterling silver. It is specially formulated to resist tarnish, but, like all silver, will tarnish. You can minimize oxidation by storing silver jewelry in a bag or box away from air and heat. Regularly wearing the jewelry can help rub off tarnish. I allow the silver serotonin necklace I wear daily to develop a bit of a patina. It's OK to wear your sterling silver jewelry in the shower.
Your order will come packaged in a cute, recycled paper gift box with a little card explaining what the molecule represents. I tie it with a ribbon, making a pretty package for gifting - no addition wrapping required.

If you are shipping directly to the gift recipient, I'm happy to include a card with your gift message. Just let me know when you order.
