Description

A Book of Fabulous Beasts, Old Stories Retold by AM Smyth. This copy is a first edition published in 1939 by Oxford University Press. With superb illustrations by Dorothy Fitch (see photos). Of a smiliar size to a Ladybird book this is a super vintage book of mythical creature tales.

Contents: Phoenix; Barnacle Geese; Basilisk; Gorgon; Were-Wolves; Centaur; Salamander; Unicorn; Pelican; Sphinx; Gryphon; Dragon.

The contents are in good condition. The pages have just the odd mark but overall are clean and tightly bound with no writing or marks of previous ownership. There is tanning and toning around the outside edges of the pages. There is a crease and small hole at the bottom of page 15 which is most liklely to be due to a small fault when the paper was manufactured as opposed to any damage (see close-up photo). With orange endpapers illustrated with a dragon pattern.

In black and orange papered boards decorated with a repeating pattern. The boards have picked up some marks and have rubbed around the edges and at the corners.

The spine has tanned a great deal and has rubbed at the head and tail. The binding of the spine is good and strong and there are no cracked hinges.

Your copy of A Book of Fabulous Beasts will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon.

H 19 cm x 13 cm, 80 pages, 0.13 kg. I dispatch worldwide daily from the UK. (With the exception of a small number of countries).
