Description

****************************
Your favorite lake, bay, or shoreline is the subject of this layered papercut, made to your specifications and custom color scheme.

*****************************

What it is:

I hand cut a body of water of your choosing and recreate as closely as I can its outline and lines of depth beneath the water's surface. The finished piece is an 8 x 10" frame-ready work of art that is both abstract and accurate.

What I need from you in a conversation or in the message to seller:

1.) The name of the body of water you'd like me to recreate. Send along a link to an online map if you can. Also let me know any additional important details about the area. For example, let me know if there are smaller lakes that are nearby that you'd like included or excluded from the piece, or if you'd prefer only a certain stretch of the shoreline to be included. Google Maps work well, but feel free to send a link to a map you feel best represents the area you'd like to see covered.

Google Maps: http://maps.google.com/

2.) Your color scheme choice. I work with a set of cardstock that is available in four-shade sets. You can view them all in the last photo in this listing (above), and see examples of many of them color sets in other work in my shop.

3.) Your time line. Please check the SHOP UPDATE in the announcement for the current custom piece opening: http://www.etsy.com/shop/Crafterall?ref=si_shop . If you have a firm deadline, please let me know.

4.) Anything else not mentioned here that you think I should know or would like me to do. My main goal is to meet or exceed your expectations and I reach that goal easier with great information and clear communication from you.

**************************

What I will do:

Upon receiving your order, payment, and notes, I will contact you to confirm everything, submit a screen shot or image of the subject area in an 8 x 10 ratio for your approval, and clarify any questions or loose ends. When I've completed your piece, I will contact you with photos of the work to meet with your approval. Upon approval, I will send your piece to you in a sturdy box via US Mail.

If, for some reason, I am unable to fulfill your request, I will refund your full payment.

**************************

Looking for more?

Perhaps you’re looking for something more than just a lake. Maybe you’d like a mountain range, an island archipelago, a dotted line showing a bike route, more than five layers, a segmented diptych or triptych, multiples of the same piece, or any other additional traits that supersede the description of this listing. If so, please contact me to begin the planning process. Based on the details of your request, I will estimate the cost and time needed to complete your piece(s). Please be aware that the time and cost of a more detailed and complicated custom request may be significantly higher. I’ve taken on many amazing requests over the years, and I blog about many of them here: http://www.crafterall.com/blog

I had a wonderful experience working with Marnie to have a custom map made! She created a beautiful piece that was accurate to my exact custom specifications and requests, and came out even better than I had imagined. She was great to work with throughout the process as well. I purchased this as a gift and will be getting one for myself sometime soon!

I ordered Chesapeake Bay with some customization (text printed on the top layer; add-on heart location marker). Marnie was fantastic throughout the whole process....she was VERY quick to respond, showed me six different options for fonts, and adjusted her mockups as I narrowed it down/requested minor tweaks. Once I gave the final OK, she created and shipped SO quickly. I was on the fence about whether to use a location marker, and she offered to send it separately as a sticker so I could decide once I've seen the whole thing in person, which was such a nice touch. When it arrived, it was packaged nicely and protected well -- and she had actually included 3 different sizes of the location marker so that I had options.

This is a wedding gift for one of my best friends, and I'm SO EXCITED about it. Thanks, Marnie!!

Getting mail that isn't junk or bills is such a treat. It's one of the reasons I make my own cards. I package purchased items as safely and nicely as I can without charging an arm and a leg. Whenever possible I use recycled materials and reuse bubble wrap and tissue from the many purchases I make on Etsy.

I ship through USPS using First Class mail, and I try to send your package within 24 hours of your cleared payment. If you would like an upgrade to Priority Mail or would like to purchase insurance for your item, contact me and I will prepare an adjusted invoice. I work to provide safe and fairly priced shipping options. If the shipping cost is much less than billed, I will gladly refund the additional amount through PayPal. International buyers are responsible for all fees and taxes associated with items crossing borders.

Please make sure your shipping address is correct. If not, please clarify the address to which you prefer me to send your purchased item. If a package comes back to me due to an error on your part (inaccurate address, etc), I will send you an additional invoice via paypal to cover cost of re-shipment.

F.A.Q.s:

http://www.crafterall.com/search/node/FAQ

Q. Where can I see your work in person?

A. Several awesome shops around the county carry Crafterall works. You can see the whole list on my website: www.crafterall.com/shop

Local Twin Cities folks can also usually find me at the No-Coast Craft-O-Rama Holiday show on the first Friday and Saturday in December each year.

Finally, you can schedule to visit me at my home in Shorewood. If you contact me ahead of time, I'd be happy to show you some color options or design options so that you can make the best decision.

Q. Can you send color swatches before I order something?

A. Picking a color can be really hard. I'd be happy to mail you some small color swatches. I ask only that you purchase a piece first and request the swatches in your order. Then, after you've received the swatches and selected a color, I'll make your piece and send it to you in the color you've chosen.

Q. I saw a piece on your blog that's not listed in your Etsy shop. Can I request it anyway?

A. In most cases, I'd be delighted to recreate a custom piece for you. Just contact me the details, and we'll go from there. Rarely, I make a piece that I either cannot or will not remake. But it never hurts to ask.

Q. Do you accept requests for custom orders?

A. Yes! I relish the opportunity to create a custom Crafterall handmade work for you. We can work off of an existing piece from my shop or create something entirely new. Please contact me to share your ideas and goals for a new project.

Q. Will you consider wholesale inquiries?

A. Yes! Large, bulk, and wholesale inquiries are most welcome. Please contact me with your interest.

Q. These pieces seem thicker than a photography or a poster. Can they still be framed in a store-bought frame?

A. You bet. They are a little thicker than a photo print, but not by much. I recommend framing most pieces with a mat and frame combo. Frames built for mats usually have a little extra room, and the mat really enhances the sense of depth in the pieces.

Q. Do you sell your work framed?

A. No. I leave that to the capable and creative hands of the professionals. If you ask, I'd be happy to recommend some local folks who do good work.

Q. What's the best way to contact you?

A. You may either send me a convo via Etsy or e-mail directly at Marnie.Karger [!at] gmail.com. I tend to check my e-mail many times a day and work to reply to your messages as soon as I can.

Q. Do you like marshmallows?

A. Yes! Raw, melty, burned, store-bought, homemade, flavored, plain, fresh, crusty: yum. (Circus peanuts do not count as marshmallows. Those are icky.)

Q. Do you ever have any sales?

A. Occasionally, but, if you've read this far, I want to thank you. To show my appreciation, use the coupon code "ISURVIVED" when you check out, and you will receive 10% off your purchase. Good on you! (Please use this code only once.)
