This pendant is hand carved on caribou antler. The pendant is almost 1 7/8" (48mm) long and 1 1/4” (32mm) wide. It is strung on durable waxed cotton cord that adjusts in length from 15” to 30” (38cm to 76cm).

Fur clothing has long been used to protect the Native peoples living in the Arctic from the extreme cold temperatures. The tradition continues to this day. This pendant shows a serene face encircled by a cozy fur ruff.

There are many steps to producing this antler pendant. First Ron saws a cross sectional slice from the antler. An initial sanding removes the saw marks. He then carves whatever design he “sees” in the antler. The entire piece is then sprayed with black paint. A hole is drilled. A second sanding removes the paint from the top surface and leaves the design darkened. The piece is then finished with a protective oil treatment that enhances the natural beauty of the antler.
