Description

Migration 5 by Jessica Torrant - Original watercolor wash and gold ink drawing on 6" x 8" archival mixed media paper, 2018. It is signed on the bottom (not seen here) in gold ink, and titled/dated on the back in light pencil. Painting will be shipped in a protective plastic sleeve with foam core backing in packaging that will ensure no damage in transit.

About the Migration Series:

This series was created after some deeply needed time by the ocean this summer, both in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Seeing the patterns of flying birds, schools of fish, the patterns in the sand around rocks and shells, and the reflection of the sun in every ripple of the water. I love the ocean, it's my favorite place to be, and if feels like every sight stirs something in my soul and connects me to something greater. I began this series thinking I would draw silhouettes of birds over sea and sky colored watercolor washes, but soon discovered it was just too literal. I found that repeated geometrical forms resonated with me and evoked deeper meaning.

On a purely decorative level, I wanted to work with my favorite current color palette - ocean blues, gold and white. I can see these in a beach themed room or a coastal home framed in simple light wood or gold frames with pure white mats. On a deeper level, this series is about connected beings or souls on a journey, both here on Earth and beyond.
