Description

1972 Empire of Ethiopia $5.00 Haile Selassie Proof Silver Coin,

in Ethiopian Mint Sealed Slab PROOF

The obverse has the effigy of Haile Selassie facing right. The reverse has the shield of Ethiopia with the Lion of Judah. This is a brilliant uncirculated proof coin in the original Huguenin Medailleurs of Switzerland plastic holder.

KM#52: 25 gram 0.999 silver. Mintage was only 100,000 coins.

Haile Selassie was the last emperor of Ethiopia. He was heir to a dynasty that traced its origins to the 13th century, and from there, by tradition, back to King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. He is also revered as the returned Messiah of the Bible, God incarnate, among those of the Rastafari movement. He, himself, remained an Ethiopian Orthodox Christian throughout his life.
