For those of you unfamiliar with the concept of the french butter crock, "FBC" as I call them, here it is. It's a low-tech way to keep your butter soft, spreadable, and fresh, all without refrigeration. Simply pack your butter tightly into the tube and put enough water in the bottom part to form a seal. Air, the culprit for turning butter rancid, is kept away from the butter by the water. Change the water every few days, keep out of direct sunlight and you'll be amazed at how these really do work. I've heard it said that if you use unsalted butter it's a good idea to put a pinch of salt in the water. And besides, when not in use you get to look at a pretty cool handmade crock on your countertop...

This guy measures about 5" tall and 4" across. I measure it to see how much it holds liquid-wise, about a cup, so I do believe you could easily pack a couple sticks of butter in the tube part... Instructions are included in case you forget what do do with this rather strange looking pot, or are planning to give it as a gift.
