About This Image:

Birds make their way into my images quite often.

For me, they are harbingers without the superstitious attachment to being either a sign of good or bad. They are simply a messenger. A presence denoting motion and grace. They possess a fluidity that is something I strive for in
my work and my daily life.

They can be fierce, loyal, stubborn and strong. They are acrobats and daredevils. They are resilient.

Lately I have been drawn to the realization that we, from the time we are children, often look at birds and wish for their ability of flight. But I am quite certain that no bird has ever looked upon us with the desire to be anything other than a bird.

I like to remember that when I am pulled from my path or feeling scattered in my pursuits.

"Roost"

Outside the wind wails a November dirge
A certain melancholy of no place and no time
Beating itself into these walls
Slipping under thresholds
Finding the cracks
Penetrating space

This is darkness

I want to reason it away but
I'm unsure of the places my thoughts are treading
I am cautious and weary
And in a moment of hesitation
A quick glance stolen reveals a visitor
A shape beyond the windowsill horizon
Light washes it's form into focus
Rising and gray

An angel
An archetype of simpler means
Neither gifted nor cursed
Neither rising or falling
Returning home again
As a saving grace
Pulling me up
And out
And through
And away
From this
