How is it made?

The Oppala Balance Board is made out of sustainable and upcycled materials, such as wood, cork and rubber tires from tire disposal shops. The production process is completely handmade, combining power tools with skilled hand labor***. Our factory is located in Portugal, where the world’s largest cork oak forest area exists and a strong cork tradition is still alive.
All our Onelove Ecosport products have been made with love and passion for the environment, using high quality materials to ensure a long life span when used properly.

What does the Oppala balance board include?

The Oppala Board consists of two main components:

●First, an egg shaped board is made out of strong baltic birch plywood**** of 760 mm long by 450 mm wide and 15 mm thick cm, and is covered by a cork deck layer of 5mm thick. On top of the cork layer, two patches of a cork grip finish are placed so your feet won’t slip. The board comes with a hand hole on the side for easy carrying. All edges are hand sanded until smooth corners and rails are reached.

●Second, the cork roll is a solid cork agglomerate piece of 450 mm long and 150 mm diameter.

●Third, a handmade carpet made out of residuals from the big textile industries; 150 cm x 150 cm.

Why is Oppala special?

Why cork?

Cork is a natural product that is used on the board surface and out of which our rolls are made exclusively. Cork provides a very comfortable feeling when used barefoot (recommended), thus helping to relocate your center of gravity naturally. Cork is naturally hypoallergenic, provides great grip and does not create unwanted odors. The solid cork roll slides smoothly, providing a good grip between the board and the floor.

Further to all these beneficial characters of cork, by us creating and you buying cork products we promote the continuation of cork tree cultivation in Portugal. Cork is harvested by hand from the constantly growing bark of the cork oak Quercus suber. During this process not a single tree is cut down and moreover it leads to the conservation of the traditional agroforestry "Montado" a great example of regenerative agriculture combined with forestry.

Why tire rubber?

The stoppers located at each end of the bottom of the board are covered with tire rubber. The rubber absorbs the impact between the floor and the board provides a smooth feeling without provoking unpleasant noises or scratches. This means training in your flat won’t be a problem anymore for your neighbor below!

Why recycled textile?

The carpet is a handmade product done in a small handcraft manufacturer in the Center/North of Portugal, where the weaving techniques are an antique and valuable tradition. The residuals from the big companies are upcycled and transformed in beautiful carpets. This is an important component to better preserve the Oppala Board from scratches from irregular flooring and to roll smoothly no matter where you are.

Finally, have FUN with care, and work out to find your center of gravity by using your body weight!
