Spinel gained fame as the Black Prince's Ruby, the 'Timur ruby,' actually a magnificent Red Spinel set in England’s Imperial State Crown and displayed in the Tower of London as one of the centerpieces of England’s Crown Jewels. Weighing 352.50 carats, it is inscribed with names of its previous owners, Mughal emperors. Our Spinel is the rare black variety often mistakenly called Black Garnet.
