"A great sacred Oak was struck down by lightning in ages past. What remained of the great tree was then fashioned into a sacred altar by the people. It stood and remained a place to connect with the spiritual realm. The two immense branches that had split from the tree were transformed by the villages’ carver into representations of the God and Goddess. The people erected them near the place where the tree once stood. The Goddesses arms and the Gods antlers stretch upward while their bases merge with the earth, bridging the upper and lower realms. On the Goddess a spiral is carved to represent her connection with the universe and the cycles of birth and rebirth. Carved upon the God is a tree that represents his connection with the physical realm as well as his role a protector of the forest. This new place of veneration made from the old became a reminder to the people that all things change, but yet the old ways remain.

Untold ages later, a traveler seeking knowledge of the old ways came upon the ancient place, it felt like stepping into a place that is not a place, and a time that is not a time. The traveler, firmly holding the staff bearing representations of the four elements felt the strong mystical connection here, and heard the ancient voices of the ages echoing their lessons through the woods. At this moment the traveler realized that the candles burning upon the altar were left to pass on the sacred flame of wisdom and enlightenment. At the moment of this realization, the woods seemed to come alive in reply as fireflies began to swirl around the altar before the travelers eyes! The traveler knew that the flame must not die out, and must be left for those who would follow after the traveler has left this mystical place."
