Additional policies

1.) Q: Can I use the hammock with my newborn baby?
A: Definitely. The hammock imitates the baby's experience in the womb, allowing them to be situated similarly, and is perfectly suited for newborns. The younger the baby is exposed to the hammock, the easier it will be for the baby to enjoy the lifelong advantages of being able to calm down and be at ease.
2.) Q: Up to what age can the hammock be used?
A: There are no limitations for use of the hammock, and it can be used as long as the baby enjoys it safely. Usually, the hammock can be used for putting the baby to sleep, and all through the various challenges of the baby's first year: Colic relief, teething pain, and weaning issues.
Later on, as the use of the hammock lessens, the hammock's spacing pole can be taken out and the hammock can be used by toddlers and children (note that the cloth stretches out when used by children.)
It's hard to determine a specific age because each baby is different, and as they grow and develop, their needs change. Some use it up to the age of 2 years, others stop earlier. The hammock is strong enough to hold toddlers, but then it is a swing, a game. Not the calming tool for the baby.

3.) Q: Is the hammock safe? Can the baby fall out?
A: The restnest is safe for babies and has passed all the tests administrated by the Standards Institute of Israel. The hammock is built so that the edges are kept up high, and the bigger the baby gets, the more the fabric stretches to keep the baby further from the edges, and further away from the baby's hands. Therefore, the baby cannot physically pull itself out.
PLEASE NOTE - The hook must be installed correctly and every so often be checked for looseness of the screw.

4.) Q: What is the additional pillow for?
A: The hammock functions perfectly without the pillow, yet the pillow is a tool to lessen the cradling position.
Some babies seem to find the pillow more comfortable. I recommend the pillow for babies who have a cold or babies who have a whistling breath.

5.) Q: I'm not sure the baby is positioned correctly. How do I make sure?
A: Make sure the baby is positioned in a right angle to the spacing pole. The head should be close to the cloth's edge (15 cm) The spare cloth should gather near the baby's feet. If the baby is very small, and their head leans back, tighten the straps towards the baby's head. In the cradle position, the head and feet should be in the same height. You can see the angle better from the side, if the position is correct. Looking from above can be confusing.

6.) Q: We got the hammock yesterday, but my baby keeps crying. What can we do?
A: First, make sure he is placed correctly (see question above) in most cases the baby is aligned with the pole. Try different manners of up and down movement. Rock him back and forth. Try soft bouncing and see which way works best for your baby.
When the baby shows signs of calming down (relaxing his back, relaxed shoulders, hands on his stomach) know that you're on the right track. It probably means he needs several tries to get used to it.

7.) Q: Is the cradle position healthy for the baby's back?
A: Yes. This position is even better for the baby than lying on a flat surface and it is important to understand why. When your baby is placed in a half sitting position, like in an infant seat or a trampoline, gravity pushes the baby's vertebrae towards each other and can cause pressure on the back. Try to avoid that position. When cradled, gravity allows the back vertebrae to align naturally. Not only is there no pressure on the back, but the position elongates the back muscles, relaxes the stomach muscles and shoulders and improves flow of the nerves to the spinal cord.

8.) Q: How do I hang the hammock?
A: The hammock hangs from the ceiling. A 13 mm (0.5 an inch) drill is needed. For houses made of Gypsum ceiling the concrete beam should be located. For houses with wooden beams a different hook is used. Notice the kit comes with two different hooks. One is for concrete ceilings and the other is for wooden beams. Choose the one you need carefully. The hammock cannot hang from plaster ceilings.

9.) Q: My baby is fussy and doesn’t seem to be getting used to the hammock? Should I give up?
A: Today I know what I did not know when I started out- my most important clients, the ones who this hammock has made the most impact on - are those babies who at first showed resistance to it. The baby's reluctance to be in the hammock usually shows a difficulty to calm themselves, to let go and just be cradled.
Using the techniques mentioned in question 6, a baby can learn a very valuable tool, one that will follow them forever. So sometimes, though it can be a little frustrating, the parents should insist on trying, waiting and not giving up. These are the babies which this hammock is made for, the ones who get much more out of it.

10.) Q: My baby's chin touches her chest. I'm worried about her breathing.
A: The position you describe is very common in babies who are in a state of deep relaxation, usually while asleep. If you hear that she breathes quietly, then she is perfectly safe. If you still feel concerned, release the laces on the head side and try to change her position.

11.) Q: In the beginning my baby loved his RestNest and fell asleep in it as soon as I put him in. Now it does not seem to work as well…
A: Babies need change as they grow. Try a different rocking rhythm or style, most babies appreciate the change and fall in love with their RestNest all over again! Indeed, as your son goes through the stages of colic, teething, childhood illness and weaning - you will discover the versatility of this product's benefits.

12.) Q: What is the minimum ceiling height I need to have in my house in order to hang the baby hammock?
A: You need ceiling height of at least 5'9" / 1.8 m for the baby hammock.

The responsibility for using the hammock safely is the parent's. It should be hung properly. The baby hammock should be always within sight of the parents, when in use. Please follow safety instruction. The responsibility is your own.
