A sweet vintage inspired cocktail hat, think Audrey Hepburn in "Roman Holiday". Made from reclaimed silver and gray cross weave silk, it perches upon your 'do without disturbing in. The perfect way to finish off that outfit for your special occasion.

The base for this piece is buckram that was formed over a hand sculpted plasticine clay block. The edge is then wired, a fleece layer is added, then the outer silk is smoothed and gathered over the base. A felt lining and a comb finish off the inside.

This hat was my entry into the first Milliners of Etsy team Project Runway Project. The challenge was to choose an item from Etsy to be the inspiration to create a hat.
This is my inspiration piece, from Out of Line:

What I love about the inspiration piece is the timeless feel of it. It has classic lines and colors that can be worn for years to come, but hearken back to an era when ladies dressed up and did it right.

In creating my piece, I didn't want it to be to matchy-matchy, but to have a similar feeling to the original, and of course to look good with it. My favorite thing about the inspiration piece is the gathered detail, and I tried to reflect that in my own piece.

Thank you! I had a blast, and hope you enjoy!
