This is a one of a kind Labradorite Crystal ball. It measures nearly 40 mm across.
The material is from Madagascar and displays a high amount of chatoyancy due to the mineral incluions of Lamellar inter growths within the overlapping layers of Feldspar.
Labradorite is known as the Sorcerer's Stone. It is believed that one can manifest magick into their immediate environment when focusing the intent through this stone.
There is an Inuit legend that describes the origin of Labradorite.
"The Northern Lights were once imprisoned in the rocky cliffs along the coast of Labrador.
A hunting Eskimo warrior discovered where they were trapped. He was able to free most of the lights with a mighty blow of his spear. Some of the lights were still trapped within the stone, and thus we have today the beautiful mineral known as labradorite.
Labradorite is a member of the plagioclase series of minerals. The plagioclase series comprises felspars that range in chemical composition from pure NaAlSi3 O8 to pure CaAl2 Si2 O8 . Labradorite is defined at approximately the 50% to 70% CaAl2 Si2 O8 . Labradorite by definition must contain 50-70% calcium to 50-30% sodium in the sodium/calcium position of the crystal structure.
