Item details

Vintage from the 1970s

Materials

Metal, Chrome, Plastic

This is a Sears Manual 2 vintage manual typewriter in excellent condition. The Sears line of typewriters were "house brand" machines made by a variety of typewriter company over the years. The Manual 2 was made by Brother of Japan and sold in Sears stores in the 1970s. This example is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition.

As with all my typewriters, I have cleaned, lubricated, adjusted repaired, and polished this vintage typewriter, and it is ready to use. You can start writing with this machine as soon as you get it home

**COSMETIC CONDITION**
Cosmetically, this vintage working typewriter is in excellent condition. The white plastic shell and body pieces have a few minor flaws here and there, but nothing major, and some of the keys also have some minor use marks. Overall, the white and black coloring with the red accent keys and bare metal control features look decidedly vintage, and make for a good looking typewriter.

This machine comes with a black plastic carrying case that is in good shape, but which does not close

**MECHANICAL CONDITION**
Mechanically, this vintage sears manual typewriter is in excellent condition. The Brother-made machines from this era are light and reliable, and this machine is no different. It types well, has a Pice (10 characters per inch) typeface, and an uncommon 13" wide carriage. The platen has hardened slightly as is common. I've installed a new ribbon and this machine is ready to use.

**INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING**
I will ship internationally, but you'll have to contact me first. Let me know where you are located and I will provide a shipping estimate.

**RECOMMENDED BUYER**
I would recommend this machine to someone new to typewriters who wants an entry-level machine, a designer who wants a small mid-century typewriter for decorative or occasional working purposes, and those looking for a typewriter as s gift to a child or teen. This Sears typewriter is a well-made, reliable vintage machine, and will be a joy to a new owner who wants a vintage machine but who doesn't want to pay for a higher-priced machine.

Thanks for looking, and as always, feel free to ask me any questions.

Returns and exchange details

I sell vintage and antique typewriters that are no longer made, some of which are 100 years old or more. As much as I'd love to be able to tell you that they will always be problem-free and last forever, I can't, because they won't.

Older machines can develop problems without notice, even if they're properly maintained and loved. I promise to accurately describe, photograph, or video any typewriter I sell. If you want additional photos or have questions about anything, all you have to do is ask. You can also inspect the machines in person if you are in the Kansas City area.

So, to make a long story short, I will accept most returns, but I do ask that you pay for return shipping. If your typewriter does not work as it should upon arrival, I'll accept a return unless it was sold as a display model. Also, if you do experience a problem, many times there is a simple repair that will solve it. I can often walk you through the repair so you don't have to send the typewriter back.

Shipping policies

Unless otherwise agreed to or specified, I'll ship all typewriters via USPS, FedEx, or UPS at my discretion. I will use the method that is most economical for my buyers, and will ship to anywhere in the continental United States.

If you are located outside of the United States, please contact me before making a purchase. I can usually arrange shipping, but I don't want to make any promises I cannot keep.

As far as packaging goes, shipping typewriters is notoriously problematic for some people. Typewriters have heavy moving parts (the carriages) that can be easily damaged if not properly secured. I lock the carriages on all shipped typewriters if they have that feature, but I may also secure them with additional safety measures. I use a variety of techniques to make sure your machine gets to you in exactly the same condition it was in when I boxed it up.

Please be advised that some typewriters are very heavy, and can weigh 40 pounds or more. These heavier machines naturally have higher shipping costs associated with them.

Payments

Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
I accept credit cards, PayPal, or Etsy gift cards. If you absolutely must have a machine and cannot pay me with either of these methods, please contact me so we can try to work out a solution. I know how strong the pull of a vintage manual typewriter can be, and I'll do my best to make sure I get your baby to you.

Additional policies

A lot of vintage stuff, especially typewriters, is beautiful and awesome. But I suppose you already knew that.
