Antique stereoscope, also known as a stereopticon or stereoview. A fabulous steampunk style gadget used to view stereo cards, one of America’s most popular forms of entertainment in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The still picture cards combine two images to create a 3D effect for the viewer. Some even introduced color, which could only be seen through the view finder.

The stereoscope is in wonderful condition, although it is missing one pin, which helped hold the card in place when viewing. this is easily replaced, and the scope still functions without it.

The embossed metal viewer is marked "Monarch" and has the original deer trademark. while the wooden base is marked: "Manufactured by Keystone View Co. Meadville PA. Made in USA".

Approx 13" long. The base is adjustable for moving the cards toward or away from the viewer.

Includes eight steroscopic cards, which are of various subjects.
