A real section of boa shed transformed into fine [.999] silver and set with a 4mm faceted lab-created alexandrite trillion. The pendant is a rough rectangular shape, following the lines of the original scales. It hangs from a sterling silver figure eight chain with sterling findings. All silver has been deeply oxidized, and the scales polished for contrast and shine. I've applied museum quality protectant to help preserve the patina.

~ About My Fine Silver Snakeskin ~
The beautiful pattern of the snake's skin has been found in art created prior to written history, and the use of real snakeskin in clothing and accessories has endangered several species. Pythons and boas particularly have been exploited in the name of fashion, and the enormous boas of South America are thought to have disappeared entirely as a result. I began making Fine Silver Snakeskin in 2010 as a humane alternative to wearing real skins and to pay tribute to a gorgeous creature which has figured prominently in human culture and my own life. Each piece is created by hand in an intensive process using Precious Metal Clay and portions of my adopted Colombian Red-tailed Boa's shed. The result is a detailed and textured version of the original shed with variations reflecting Eris' unique pattern, including natural dips and bends.
