Made by the FIX company who were the best manufacturers of laminated gold in France at the turn of the century. The FIX brand was formed by the Savard jewelers who used only the finest art nouveau designers, in the production of their gold filled FIX pieces. It is a very high quality thick gold fill which is often mistaken for solid gold, as it will acid test as 18k. It is stamped fix and shows the makers mark. The French are very familiar with the concept of elegant gold filled jewellery so thick that there are hardly ever signs of wear. The designs and quality are generally so good that they are hard to tell from their solid gold counterparts.

FIX - The process of high quality hot gold foil laminating onto brass was first created in France in the early 19th century by a young Paris jeweller called Francois Savard who worked in the Marais district. His process used an unusually thick layer of 18 ct or 14 ct gold foil over brass to form jewellery which would withstand long term wear and be easily mistaken for real gold.

He eventually set up a factory manufacturing affordable pieces using this process in the French town of Gueret dans la Creuse. His business became very successful and he was joined by his son Auguste Savard who took over the company in 1893. Auguste was an ambitious man and it was he who registered the unique trade mark FIX with the authorities to identify his products as a high quality range of affordable jewellery. He registered this trade mark to protect the integrity of his superior quality laminated gold filled jewellery.

To promote the newly trade marked range he embarked on a massive advertising campaign and soon there were posters and magazine advertisements all over France declaring the quality of the gold filled jewellery with the brand name FIX. He engaged top rate art nouveau designers to design pieces in the highly fashionable art nouveau style such as Emile Dropsy, Tairac and Becker to name but a few. At the height of production the Savard FIX company employed 300 people working on the production of this lovely range. They produced a wide range of items using both 14ct and 18ct foil overlay on brass with a choice of yellow or pink rose gold all with a wonderful quality and finish.

Please be aware that items are 'vintage' or 'antique' and are sold "as is". Wear and tear is both inevitable (and desirable!) - therefore each piece may have flaws, dents or scratches. We will always point out and photograph, anything that is noticeable. We always try to buy our items, in the best possible condition but as vintage, they are often not perfect.

We will describe things as best we can, and always list additional photographs for you to consider before buying. If you have any questions please ask. Dating items can be tough and we try as hard as possible, to be accurate but we cannot be responsible for any errors, so please make your own independent inquiries.

If you are not happy with your purchase, please contact us within five business days after receiving the item. If you decide to return the item, it must be posted within those first five days. It must be unused, in its original packaging. We will refund you via Paypal. You will have to pay the cost of shipping the item back to me.
