Kauffer not only designed the covers for this 1944 edition of Green Mansions, but also filled it with lavish full page color illustrations. Featuring 10 full page color illustrations and 23 drawings printed in green as chapter heads, this title is one of Kauffer's greatest accomplishments in the book arts.

Nicely preserved bright illustrations on the interior. Very clean. Some shelf wear to the edges of the boards. No slipcover.

About E. McKnight Kauffer:
Edward ("Ted") McKnight Kauffer (1890-1954) began his brilliant career specializing in poster design during the 1920's and 1930's. In the early teens Kauffer moved from his native Montana to England, where he gained fame and as hailed for elevating advertising to high art. After moving back to the United States in 1940, his focus shifted from posters to books.

E. McKnight Kauffer was also notably married to textile designer Marion Dorn, with whom he often collaborated.
