Description

Penguin Modern Classics edition of 'Threepenny Novel' by Bertolt Brecht. The novel contains some of the same characters from his play The Threepenny Opera. Set in London at the start of the 20th century and follows Macheath (Mac the Knife) as he rises from being a brutal gangster on the streets to become the head of a large bank. The novel is a critique of finance capital and of a society that encourages sociopathic behaviour in order to achieve success.

Originally published by Penguin in 1961, this is a 1973 reprint. Translated by Desmond I Vesey, with verses translated by Christopher Isherwood. Paperback book. 365 pages. Cover art is a detail from 'The Matchseller' by Otto Dix.

Fair vintage condition. There is a crease in the top middle of the front cover and slight wear to the edges of the front cover. There is a stain/mark on the top edge of the pages. See photo 5. Pages are tight and unmarked.
