@Jumblelaya: a breezy little novelty set and oh! so freakin' cute! Worn together in full pin-up fashion, rocked as separates -- it's not so easy to find these old cotton play clothes as they were usually wrecked in a summer or two of wanton sun and fun.

This cutie was made in Japan, and its label has a low digit/early WPL number (6749). WPLs were issued from 1941 to 1959 (though a company could keep using this number after the 1959 in place of an RN #).

••Designer: "Tailored in Japan"
••Fabric: crisp pure cotton
••Color: red, white, and bright blue
••Top slips over head; shorts close with a back metal zipper and pearly blue plastic button
••Top has two belt loops in front, so you can add a belt to the top and get a more fitted/cinched look
••Please read on for full measurements and condition information
••Jewelry, accessories, belts, crinolines, etc. are for style inspiration only and are not included in the sale unless specified

(This is tagged a 16, which could be helpful if you know your vintage sizing, but be aware that it runs much smaller by today's sizing.)

Bust of top (underarm to underarm seam measured flat, then doubled: 40".
Waist: 34"; can add belt to cinch smaller.
Length of top, center of back collar to hem:
Shorts waist: 28", although it appears the button was moved over slightly to make waist smaller; can be moved back to get the original 29" waistline.
Shorts hips: 42".
Shorts inseam: 4".
Shorts, front rise: 14".
Shorts, back rise: 16".
Shorts, length from waist to hem, measured along outer seam: 16".

*Please note -- You MUST be smaller than the garment's measurements and allow room (at least 1" is recommended) for breathing room and the kind of fit you desire.
Try measuring a similar garment you own, and compare.

This vintage set is in Excellent condition.

Very wearable, structurally sound. The top has the tiniest trace of fade along the shoulders and a pea-sized factory irregularity (slightly rough spot in weave), also on shoulder. Absolutely not noticed when worn; the impression is crisp and clean.
