Paper-piecing has taken the contemporary quilt world by storm—and for good reasons. Paper-piecing is a way to accurately piece complex blocks. And once you get the hang of it, paper-piecing is really quite easy!
I started designing the blocks in Triangle Joy when I participated in an online challenge to make a mini quilt with triangles. I realized that I was having so much fun designing triangle blocks that I kept going! You can make this pattern in solids (like the sample quilt on the cover) or use a variety of print scraps for the triangles and the background.
In this pattern, you have full-size templates for 11 paper-pieced blocks. (Be sure to print or copy the pages at 100%.) I've also included a planning page to help you keep organized.
If you have successfully paper-pieced simple blocks, then you should have no difficulty making any of the blocks in this pattern. Also, to help you get started, I have graded the blocks for “degree of difficulty.” Even if you are a very experienced paper-piecer, I suggest starting with the blocks labeled Easy. Sometimes we have to do a refresher if we’ve been away from it for a while.
PRINTING NOTE: Be sure to print one block as a test and check that the block template prints at correct size. You may need to adjust your default printer settings.
Fabric requirements:
**12 to 20 assorted solids or modern prints (approximately 1-1/4 yards total for 52" x 52" quilt OR 2-1/8 yards for 64" x 64" size)
**Background fabrics for blocks: 1-1/2 yards of background fabric for 52" x 52" quilt OR 2-1/8 yards for 64" x 64" size
**Borders: 1-1/2 yards of background fabric for 52" x 52" quilt OR 2-1/4 yards for 64" x 64" size
**Backing: 3-1/4 yards of background fabric for 52" x 52" quilt OR 4 yards for 64" x 64" size

This piece is so beautiful and the directions are very clear! I jumped right into it. By rating the level of difficulty of each block in the directions, that helped me to know the challenge level of each block before I started. That was like a little voice telling me to just take it slow and "you can do this!" I wish this designer would make more paper piece designs!
