This vase is wheel thrown of white stoneware- then glazed with a black underglaze and carved all before it is fired. This technique is called sgraffito, and reveals the white clay body underneath the black underglaze. It is a very time consuming process- but I think the results make it worth all the work!

This form works equally well as a vase, crock for holding utensils, or perhaps a wine bottle chiller!

I enjoy the process of the carving, as I find it to be a bit of a relaxing process. I use no template- just freehand it as I go along. No two of my pieces ever have the exact same pattern.

This vase is 7" high x 4" wide.

My glazes are food safe, dishwasher safe, and microwave safe if they are placed in a microwave full (not partial)of liquid or food for a reasonable amount of time. Never put pottery over an open flame or on a burner or other source of heat.
