Description

This set of 6 vintage Portmeirion Botanic Garden square melamine salad or dessert or snack plates was made in Italy from the design by Susan Williams-Ellis and her company based in England.

Williams-Ellis, whose father, architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, designed the fanciful buildings in the North Wales village of Portmeirion, founded Portmeirion Pottery in 1960 with her husband. Over the years, Portmeirion has become an icon of British design. The Botanic Garden series was inspired by early 19th century illustrations and features the classic Portmeirion white background and signature green vine border.

Measuring 5-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches, the plates are 3/4 inch high and stackable for easy storage. Each is impressed on the bottom with the Portmeirion logo, which reads "Susan Williams Ellis, Copyright Design, Made in Italy for Portmeirion, England."

There are four different designs here, each with a different colorful flowers and butterflies on a white background and surrounded by the green vine Portmeirion border.

All of the plates are in very good condition.
