* THE DUCHESS OF DEVONSHIRE *
The Duchess of Devonshire is a collectible art doll inspired by the real Duchess of Devonshire, Georgina Cavendish. From Wikipedia: "The Duchess of Devonshire was a celebrated beauty and a socialite who gathered around her a large circle of literary and political figures—a salon. She was also an active political campaigner in an age when women's suffrage was still over a century away."
I created and assembled this one-of-a-kind doll by hand using a variety of recycled, salvaged, vintage, and cast-off items including an amazing and rare Art Deco talc tin with stunning period graphics, an antique, hand-painted porcelain doll head excavated from behind a doll factory in the German countryside that ceased operation in the 1920s, antique lamp parts and hardware, and vintage costume jewelry.
Imperfections are to be expected and embraced, as they contribute to the pieces's unique character.
A great piece to add to your collection of quirky salvage art.
