Betty Zane, by Zane Grey was based upon the life and adventures of his own grandmother and was the book that launched his career, first published in 1903. Or, as characterized by Saalfield Publishing company (who issued this abridged edition) -- "It is told in the virile style so familiar to the lovers of this great writer's novels."

This edition doesn't have a publication date, but based upon my research, the undated Saalfied edition is believed to be from 1940. The book is 252 pages and 8 x 9 inches tall.

A very cool reprinting, done the year after Zane Grey's death, this is a nice copy with an intact dust jacket.

BOOK CONDITION

This book still has the original dust jacket, and the front illustration is rather melodramatic, but in good condition. There is chipping around the edges, especially on the spine. (See photos.) The cloth cover is in excellent condition and shows only a small amount of wear at the tips.

The interior has no rips, tears or inscriptions, The binding shows a crack inside the front cover, but the rest of the book is very tight, almost as if it was unread. The pages show significant age-related tanning -- this book was printed on cheaper paper and the expected browning has occurred.

There is one pen-and-ink illustration in the front. The book is 252 pages long. The back of the dust cover has listings for books in the Boy's and Girl's series published by Saafield.
