I want to marry the cover of this book, is that bad? :P

This is an antique Common School Speller with Written Lessons & Exercises published in 1874. It is incredibly rare to find antique or even vintage student books that are in any kind of passable condition. This book is definitely an exception.

Hard bound with paper over front and back cover. Overall condition is wonderful considering it is almost 140 years old. Some wear to the paper front and wear to the corners. Spine is still firmly intact and binding is tight. Pages are only lightly tanned, and they turn smoothly with no brittleness. The book is surprisingly free from all but one or two pencil marks. Only a small amount of separation beginning inside the front/back cover. Some book tape would prevent this from furthering. 160 pages in all.

This would make a great addition to any antiquarian's collection, or also as a wonderful gift for a special teacher.

Great examples of early spelling, grammar and instruction on the written word. Several pages are in printed script as an example of how one should write. As someone who is in love with the written word, and handwriting in particular, this is incredibly insightful on a variety of levels! :)
