"Miracle Pony's Midnight Passage" is a 37-color serigraph (silkscreen)that is symbolic of the music of Gordon Lightfoot and Jack Gladstone

This serigraph is unique not only as a work of art, but also because it is one of just two serigraph editions that are signed not only by me but also counter-signed by Jack Gladstone. Jack is an internationally known Native American poet/singer from the Blackfeet Indian Nation of Montana. Jack and I produced two cultural events together (1991 and 1992); he presented his music and I my visual art. I designed this serigraph for the 1992 event which was held in Kalispell, Montana.

There is a tremendous amount of symbolism and story-telling contained within the imagery of this work. Musicians will see several symbols that are direct references to sheet music. Start with the five lines of clouds at the top of the image and see how many you can find. And while you're studying this work, you may discover that the parallel lines of the "invisible" portal (through which the pony is passing) converge in the eye of the pony. Because there's far more to this imagery than initially meets your eye, I include with each serigraph a page of notes that explain the symbols and how each relates to the others within this work and also in the serigraph designed for the 1991 event.

To create "Midnight Pony's Miracle Passage", I pulled 64 prints during the process (and destroyed ten at the completion because I wanted only 54 in the edition - yes, if you ask, I'll explain why.) Number 54 of the edition was gifted to Mr. Gordon Lightfoot of Toronto as a thank-you from Jack and I for the years of influence Lightfoot's music exerted on our own creative works.

Using one screen for all the colors equated to almost 2,400 passes of the squeegee over that screen. It also means every print had to be registered under the screen a total of 37 times - and this was back when I would simply "eyeball" rather than use registration tabs.

Limited Edition of 54

Each serigraph as subtle variations making each one unique and truly one of a kind. Each is signed/dated and numbered by the artist (and in this work, countersigned by a performing artist as well.)

Unless otherwise stated, my serigraphs are hand-printed using lacquer-base inks through a single fabric screen.
Please see my Etsy Profile for additional information about my printing process.
