Amazing quality and an amazing product. Holds securely in even my modified Harbor Freight bench (added 2inchs of oak under the top). One swift tap and everything is secured in place. Now to build a bench worthy of your craftsmanship.

These holdfasts are awesome! I ordered holdfasts from two other vendors before these. The first set never arrived due to an international shipping issue, the second set never arrived because they were packed poorly and opened up during shipping. Third time is the charm, and I couldn't be happier that this is the set I ended up with. John got them out the door to me in a hurry and they got put to work the day they arrived, and will undoubtedly provide a lifetime or two of workholding services for me and whoever is lucky enough to inherit them.

Fantastic 1” holdfast w/ leaf that is stunning. True diameter size is slightly smaller than 1” which seems to be common. I found it works best in 15/16 hole in my 4-1/2” thick southern yellow pine work bench top. Would totally order again.

With only using this holdfast for several days, I went ahead and ordered a second one - mine are with the leaf finial. I have four Gramercy holdfasts - two of which I've had for several years. The Gramercy holdfasts are much, much cheaper than the Black Bear Forge holdfast. The Gramercy works really well. I have no complaints. It's hard to believe that the Black Bear Forge holdfast could be better than the Gramercy but in truth, the Black Bear Forge holdfast is several steps above the Gramercy. The Black Bear Forge holdfast is more springy - you do not have to hit it as hard to set it. So, if you're on a budget, you will be fine going with Gramercy. But if you want the best of the very best, a Black Bear Forge holdfast is for you.
