Comments: In Cataluña, the myth of the "water woman" lives as the Aloja (Aloges or Dones d'aigua).

The Aloja are feminine beings akin to the sirens of the sea that live in places with fresh water. It is said that the lakes where the dones d'aigua bathe can boil in anger if a stranger enters them, however the Aloja are good women and try to bring wealth and well-being to the areas they live in.

Aloja are nocturnal, have shimmering gold or red hair, and emerald or deep blue eyes. They enjoy viewing their reflections in lakes on full-moon nights.

Process:
Woodcuts and wood engravings are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually cherry in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big "stamp" of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper.
