Vintage 1950s Mad Men Suit

I met Mrs. W one day when I was doing a Flea Market on the Upper West Side in New York City. She looked at my vintage items and said she had some pieces that she wanted to get let go of, but wanted to make sure they would go to someone who appreciates vintage. So I visited her and picked up a few ensembles to sell for her....these pieces have some interesting history behind them.
Now in her 80's, Mrs. W was a dancer in the 1950s and 60's, and her husband owned an art gallery that catered to well to do clients . She told me wonderful stories of the fabulous parties they attended, and of their travels abroad to Europe, where she had custom clothing made. She was always dressed to the nines, and this is one of the suits that was custom tailored for her in Paris in the late 1950's.
It's a beautiful goldenrod ensemble, very classic yet trendy.
The dress is a sleeveless a-line style contoured just right with couture detailing. The metal back zipper is hand sewn, and the princess seam gently curves and contours creating a nice design. It will look nice with or without a belt. The jacket is smartly tailored with matching princess seams and contour lines that mirror the details on the dress. The back has a belt that hangs neatly below the waistline.
The dress can be worn alone, and the jacket can be worn over leggings or jeans.
Each piece is a stand alone piece. I am sure this suit cost a pretty penny even back then.
The fabric is a very heavy vintage faille, both pieces are fully lined and weigh over 5 pounds.

Exquisite suit by French Couturier popular from the 40's through the 80's.
