Description

12" Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass
Up Cycled Book Lantern

This is a really beautiful lantern. Created from a recycled Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass book.
This lantern isn't perfect, it's been in my studio for quite some time, and the pages of the book were thin and worn to begin with, so the pieces curl easily or can be a bit bent out of shape. It is possible to straighten them out with a little tenderness, and I will do my best to make it perfect before I ship, but the imperfections are part of it's charm in my opinion, and it is discounted because it isn't perfect. I am clearing out all of my lanterns, and I will not be making these any longer.

Listing is for the lamp shade only. These look amazing lit up.

This listing is for the lantern in the photos. Ready to ship.

A note about the books I use...I love books, so I try not to mangle any that are in great reading condition, instead I find the books that have been so loved that they are missing covers or pages or have seen their share of tiny human-owner illustrations.

International buyers please contact me for shipping prices to your area.

Artist Statement:

I am driven to create as surely as I need to breathe.

I have always been intrigued with the mind, the subconscious and symbols. I indulge in reading books by Jung, Freud, Joseph Campbell, and Mother Goose, books about Philosophy, Universal Theories, Physics, History, Mythology, Theology and Conspiracy Theories.

A fantasy world of creatures called the Freak Doody Heads has taken root in my sub-conscience and is emerging as a full blown universe with its own mythology through my art work.

I began customizing vinyl toys almost a decade ago. This medium has allowed me to connect to my life-long love of toys in new ways as the creator instead of collector. I have been surprised to find that they provide an avenue of expression for some deeper thoughts and social commentary that I may have avoided previously. This in turn has caused a recent evolutionary shift in other areas of my art.

Skydiving turns up again and again in my artwork as a result of being submerged in the sport and lifestyle for nearly two decades. I retired from jumping out of airplanes in 2010 to be a full time artist, and soon after I became a full time mom instead. Now I’m both.
I have been a self representing artist since 2001. I currently live and work in amazing Colorado. My artwork can be seen in person at Commonwheel Artist Co-op in Manitou Springs, Colorado.
