Woman with a Black Hat is an expressive portrait of my friend in the bright sunshine.

I wanted to show how the sunlight sprinkled colors over her face and turned the shadow from the hat into a beautiful shape while hiding her features. The hat is a major part of the composition and the only part not really "touched" by the sunlight.

The painting was done in acrylic paint on raw canvas attached to a treated panel. You can see the raw canvas color and textures around the edges which gives the painting a "matted" effect, making the brightly colored figure stand out as if there were a frame around her.

Painting Size: Unframed 14" x 18" (Actual figure approximately 12" x 16")

This painting is unframed. I think it would look really great in a dark ornate frame - something very "Old World" to contract with the modernism of the work.
