“Remedial Sketches” is a collection of my favorite pages from my sketchbooks, many of which I've never shown before. I’ve compiled them in a way that shows the variety of styles and methods that I use when exploring each subject. To me, sketchbooks are the most intimate of all art forms because the drawings inside are not usually made to be seen by other people. Through this engaging book you get to take an intimate tour through my sketchbooks, and mind.

The reason I love drawing in my sketchbooks is because it is the most therapeutic, or remedial, thing that I do in my studio practice; hence the name of the book. I’ve had tics caused by Tourette Syndrome since I was young. The tics are cyclical, and can get really severe and debilitating, especially when I feel anxious. To me, anxiety feels like there’s all kinds of pressure built up inside of me, and the tics are my body’s way of releasing the pressure. I have discovered that while I’m drawing, my tics subside. It’s as if the pressure is being released through my pen instead of my face, and it’s such a relief.

I ship hardcover books with extreme card to avoid damage. I use bubble wrap and cardboard to keep the corners protected because I know how disappointing it can be to get a brand new book that's damaged in shipping.

Even though I take extreme care when packaging my items for shipment there is always a possibility of damage during travel.

If your item arrives damaged Please contact me right away and we will work out a suitable arrangement for exchange, discount, store credit, or refund.

I don’t offer prints larger than 14 x 11” because I work small and enlarging my work too much starts to sacrifice quality and clarity.
I don’t make any guarantees about when a package will arrive because once I drop it off at the post office it’s really out of my hands and delays happen sometimes unfortunately. I do aim to package and ship as quickly as possible because I know you’re anticipating the arrival of your orders. I also do whatever I can to compensate for packages that get lost or damaged during shipping, including sending out replacement packages when necessary as I want you to be a satisfied customer.
I don’t know what to tell you, international shipping is expensive. I enter the weight of the package and Etsy sets the price based on that. That’s how the shipping price is set. I don’t make any money on shipping. The price you pay is the exact amount it costs.
Yes I am aware that there are people ripping off my art and selling it. What they are doing boils my blood but it’s hard to police the internet. I appreciate your supporting me by purchasing my art through my Etsy Shop. If you see my work for sale anywhere other than here it’s being stolen and my copyright is being infringed so please do not purchase from them.
I use a lot of old photographs in my work. Because of this many people have asked who the photo’s are of or other questions about the content or meaning of the photos. I get the photos at flea markets and don’t know the people in them. I use them for multiple reasons including symbolism, aesthetic, contrast or just because I feel like it. I like for people to interpret my work however they want rather than explaining my intent since art is personal.
You can’t read the handwriting in your work and want to know what it says? I get this question a lot. The truth is I can’t really read my own handwriting either and often the words I write are stream or consciousness and I can’t remember what I wrote or was thinking when I did the piece. If it’s extremely important that you know exactly what every words is and what it means then my work may not be for you. However, if you like the aesthetic and don’t have a problem not knowing exactly what the words are, or what they mean then you may enjoy my work.
All artwork comes unframed unless stated otherwise. Although I do offer framing for an additional $200 for most pieces, I highly recommend framing the piece yourself because it will be cheaper and you will be able to pick out the frame and matting colors in person to perfectly match the piece and your home.
I am very busy and get a lot of emails and messages so before you send me a question check my website or Instagram because the answer to your question could very well be in plain sight on the internet. If the answer is not available anywhere feel free to ask me and I will respond as promptly as possible.
