Item details

"Misaki Uma"
This is a verre eglomise (gilded glass) piece. It was water and oil gilded with leaves of silver, caplain, white gold, moon gold. The gilded panel was then etched, and shaded, oil glaze and mica textures were added, and then it was reverse painted with enamels.

I am indebted to Kobayashi Kiyochika (1847-1915) for this piece. I was inspired by his woodcut triptych entitled "Field-Guns of Our Army". It made me think about how without the humans and their implements of war in the scene it could be transformed into a landscape of quietude instead of gloom.

I made this in honor of endangered feral horses. Misaki Uma are one such species in Japan. Relicts of a former time.

It measure 10 inches by 10 inches on 1/4 inch thick glass. It should be framed for ease of hanging.
