"An Ordinary Montana Day" is based on real weather experience in central Montana. Often the sky here is overwhelming and I enjoy the challenge of packing it all into a small painting. Let your eyes and mind linger in this painting and you may hear the wind howl. I love it! But then, I'm the kind of person who enjoys the wind and how it plays across the landscape.

I created this oil painting on an untempered masonite panel as a study for a larger work. Forms are simplified and the paint shows evidence of each brush stroke to express the gusty wind pushing clouds and prairie grasses. Even the mountains appear to be in motion with the wind. Sky and land become like a stormy sea.

Photo #5 shows indicates the frame. Whenever possible, I select frames that exhibit wood grain patterns that characterize/complement the painting.
