Dimensions

Pendant height: 1.47 Inches; Pendant width: 0.27 Inches

This pendant features a faceted cornflower blue kyanite round and a crystal of blue Vietnamese aquamarine. The kyanite measures 3.9 mm in diameter and weighs in at 0.4 ct. The aquamarine measures 0.57 x 0.16 inches (1.46 x 0.40 cm) and weighs in at 1.6 carats.

Kyanite is a stone best known for the rich, intense blue color which gave it its name. It almost always forms wide, flat crystals known as blades. As such, it is rare for it to ever form large and clean enough to be faceted, and even then most faceters don't want to work with it because it's hard to cut. However, when successfully faceted it has a beauty that can match fine blue sapphires. This stone is an excellent oval cut with a rich cornflower blue color. It also shows some internal needles, giving it a silver chatoyant flash which appears as the stone is turned.

Below it is a crystal of rich blue aquamarine. Aquamarine is in the beryl family, cousin to emerald, morganite and heliodor. It is defined by its color, which ranges from blue to blue-green, and is caused by the presence or iron. Aquamarine is usually light blue, but sometimes it is found with much deeper coloration. Recently, Vietnam has produced some of the finest aquamarine crystals you could hope for, with medium blue coloration and unusual internal inclusions that resemble those in imperial topaz.
