Very beautiful material, chrysocolla in its native form is quite soft, 2.5-3.5 on the mohs scale. It is a hydrated copper silicate (with aluminum) often found with other minerals. The name derives from its early use as a flux for gold work, hence the name “gold” “glue.”

I obtained a few pieces of rough where the chrysocolla is dispersed within quartz, making it not only very attractive, but much harder than chrysocolla alone, and therefore more appropriate for jewelry.
